About Lendable*

Lendable is on a mission to make consumer finance amazing: * faster, cheaper and friendlier.*
We’re building one of the* world’s leading fintech* companies and are off to a strong start:

  • One of the* UK’s newest unicorns* with a team of just 100 people
  • Among the top 10 fastest growing tech companies in the UK
  • Profitable since 2017
  • Backed by top investors including* Balderton Capital* and Goldman Sachs
  • Loved by customers with the best reviews in the market (4.9/5 across 10,000s of reviews)

So far, we’ve rebuilt the Big Three consumer finance products from scratch: loans, credit cards and car finance. We get money into our customers’ hands in minutes instead of days. We’re passionate about automation through technology and open source.
We’re growing fast, and there’s a lot more to do: we’re going after the two biggest Western markets (UK and US) where trillions worth of these are held by big banks with dated systems and painful processes.

Join us if you want to:

  • Work in small teams of exceptional people, trusted to take ownership and make decisions quickly
  • Be relentlessly resourceful to solve problems and find smarter solutions than the status quo
  • Build the best technology in house, using new data sources, machine learning and AI to make machines do the heavy lifting

*
About the role*

As Lendable looks to grow our business - and* scale* our engineering team to enable and support this objective - we’re looking for talented, enthusiastic junior software engineers to join our growing team. You’ll be well supported by the existing engineers in helping grow our products and really make a difference to the whole organisation.
We believe strongly that developing junior engineers is essential to tech communities as much as our organisation. The beginner’s mindset is a core part of our engineering culture regardless of experience level, so we believe that learning between senior and junior engineers is bidirectional.
In the first instance, you will largely work on backend software stacks based on PHP, but you’ll also have the opportunity to branch out into Python, Kotlin, React, React Native and DevOps technologies and workflows if any of those take your fancy.
Within Engineering specifically, we believe strongly in our 4 cultural pillars, which define the foundation of who we are and how we work: Teamwork, Kindness, Excellence, and Resilience.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be working on one of our three UK-based finance platforms: unsecured loans, credit card or car finance. You’ll be working to deliver new feature requests which can range from tools to help our customer service agents to automations to speed up partner integrations.
Along the way, we’ll support you to learn* best practices*, get comfortable with unit/acceptance testing along with the languages, frameworks and tools we use on a day to day basis.
There will be plenty of opportunities to learn with a dedicated training budget and learning time to help keep you on top of the latest tech. We do weekly code katas across all teams and try to share knowledge including hosting an upcoming tech conference.

What we’re looking for:

  • A* Computer Science* or related degree
  • Experience with an OOP language (PHP/Java/C++/Python etc)
  • Knowledge of relational databases (we use MySQL and PostgreSQL)
  • Basic HTML/CSS
  • Automated testing
  • An understanding of design patterns
  • Understanding the importance of secure code
  • Enthusiasm to learn and grow

*
It’d be a bonus if you have*

*
1+ years of commercial software engineering experience

  • Experience with PHP
  • An understanding of frameworks (we use Symfony)
  • Some JavaScript knowledge
  • Worked with ORM libraries
  • Git (or similar version control)
  • Some knowledge of Linux/Command line/Docker
  • Experience developing mobile applications

*
The interview process*

We’re not a corporation so we try our best to get things moving as quickly as possible. For this role we’d expect:

  • A quick* video call* with one of the team
  • To see some code - a technical exercise/challenge for you to go away and complete
  • Onsite Interview
  • Peer-review the exercise you completed, discussing the technologies and approach you used;
  • Talk about your* technical skills, career aspirations and work *experience;
  • Meet the team you’ll work with daily

**Life at Lendable (also check out our Glassdoor page)

  • The opportunity to scale up one of the world’s most successful fintech companies.
  • Best-in-class compensation including equity.
  • You can work from home every Monday and Friday if you wish - on the other days we all come together IRL to be together, build and exchange ideas.
  • Our in-house chef prepares fresh, healthy lunches in the office every Tuesday-Thursday.
  • We’re growing. Last year we settled into a* new office* in Shoreditch, but have kept our penthouse loft for festivities.
  • We organise an* annual trip* with the whole company, to celebrate our milestones and reflect on our achievements.
  • We're an equal opportunity employer and are looking to make Lendable the most inclusive and open workspace in London.
